چکیده
In recent years a growing number of philosophers of science have come to realise that the philosophical foundations of statistical mechanics are not as secure as was once thought. Conceptual problems that had been swept under a carpet of technicalities, or simply ignored, have surfaced, solutions that were accepted are being questioned, and new routes are being explored. Thus, central issues such as the origins of time asymmetry, Maxwell’s demon, and the compatibility of statistical and classical mechanics, are as urgent and intriguing today as they were when statistical mechanics took shape at the end of the nineteenth century. Research in the foundations of the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics has deepened our understanding of these fields. This special issue is motivated by recognition of the need for similar research in the foundations of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. The analogy between thermodynamics and other fundamental physical theories is itself a matter of controversy. On the one hand, thermodynamics has been recognised as a particularly profound theory, indispensable for our understanding of the physical world. Those who see it in this light are fond of quoting Einstein’s celebrated remark regarding the impression made on him by classical thermodynamics. It was the only physical theory, he said, that he was convinced would never (within the limits of the applicability of its concepts) be overthrown. On the other hand, we frequently hear it said that with the emergence of statistical mechanics, the laws of thermodynamics, and the second law in particular, having been reduced to the law of large numbers, have been explained away. This latter view is often taken to indicate, further, that statistical mechanics is merely a second-order theory, a probabilistic

Two Attitudes toward Art History: A Comparative Study of Philosophy of Art History of Qādī Ahmad Qomi and Giorgio Vasari in “Golestān-e Honar” and “Lives f the Artists”
Up to now, about the first art history as we know today, i.e "Golestān-e Honar" by Qādī Mir Ahmad Qomi and "Lives of the Artists" by Giorgio Vasari, different researches and studies from different aspects of bibliographical, historical and literary has been done. But what has been neglected is a broader and deeper view into the epistemic foundation and theoretical frame of historiography and vi...
متن کاملThe Place of Philosophy of Islam in the History of Knowledge and its Role Today in the Modern World Falsafa-e-Islam
The present crisis of the Muslim world is not entirely due to external forces but also what is internal within the common understanding of Islam. Internally, it is not only theological or religious but essentially philosophical. While the West denies Islam its place within mainstream philosophical system, there has not been adequate attention paid to this by the Islamic scho...
متن کاملWeapons of Mass Destruction in Context; Investigating the Links between Militarization and Godlessness of Modern Politics
Modern brutality, which found its culmination in using weapons of mass destruction (WMD) against humanity, is the dark side of the principal teachings of the Enlightenment. The great thinkers of the Enlightenment, blaming religion as the main source of violence, removed God from the center of Western political and social thought to replace it with human. Although they were not conscious of the ...

Causality and its aspects is one of the fundamental issues in Islamic and western philosophy. In the modern west, some empirical philosophers like, Locke, Berkeley and Hume by empirical attitude challenged causality, that this subject is related to their epistemological principles in approach to objective and subjective facts, means empirical base of knowledge. Hence these philosophers denie...

Though philosophy of history like other fields of knowledge has its roots in eastern traditional knowledge, as an epistemological branch it appeared in West and then entered in East. Present states of knowledge in Islamic Iran, particularly with regard to the necessities and grounds of change in humanities, have prepared an opportunity to present a proposal in the field of philosophy of history...

Medicalization, in the sense of expansion of medicine in different aspects of human life and ultimately the transformation of medicine into a tool of social control and domination, is a common interpenetration in the literature.
